The Visual and Performing Arts Education Program (VAPAE) is comprised of several components that work together to support UCLA students as artists, educators, scholars, and researchers. Students are welcome to pursue the Arts Education Minor, or simply participate in arts education courses, additional workshops, lectures, and a variety of community engagement projects that the VAPAE Program offers throughout the year.
VAPAE’s mission is to expose UCLA undergraduates to the rich history of arts education in the U.S. and to highlight its role in a diverse society and within the progressive education movement. In alignment with our mission, VAPAE:
provides students with experiential opportunities to develop into qualified teaching artists and introduces them to a range of possible careers in the art;
is committed to community engagement, dedicating itself to building bridges between outstanding UCLA artist educators and the surrounding Los Angeles community;
aims to be at the center and forefront of the statewide and national debate regarding the place and importance of the arts for all and strives to be a catalyst for positive change in urban arts education.
